Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place by Portia MacIntosh

I am delighted to be hosting a content post of Portia Macintosh.

Blurb: Behind the music…

Being best friends with a mega-star has its perks and Nicole Wilde, music journalist, laps them up. But when said friend, Dylan King, gorgeous lead singer of The Burnouts, has zero sense of self-preservation – once a drop of alcohol hits his blood stream ‒ and an inability to keep ‘little Dylan’ in his pants, it also comes with responsibilities. Now, Nicole has to track down Dylan in time to play a charity gigtomorrow. Half a dozen groupies, a haunted hotel, a tattoo parlour, a reality show runner-up and a crazy bed-hopping, sleepless night later – will she find him before the tour bus leaves town? And when she does, is it time to head home? Or to jump on the tour bus and go along for the ride!

The Perfect Rock Star
When you think of proper rockstars, you most often think of the 1980s – that’s when sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll were at an all time high.
80’s rockstar behaviour ranges from the hilarious to the straight up despicable, and you only need to read up on a band like Mötley Crüe to get an idea of exactly what went on back then. The thing is, those kind of rockstars are still around today, they’re just not recognisable by their big hair, spandex pants and music with lengthy guitar solos. These days, it’s not just the rockers who are indulging in this rockstar behaviour, the pop crowd can be just as bad – maybe worse.
I have a rockstar character in my books (Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place and How Not to beStartruck) called Dylan King, and he was inspired by all the real life rockstar types I have met over the years. The thing about Dylan is that, even though he behaves so terribly, you can’t help but like him, and I often find that is the case in real life – the ones who are the most popular are the rockstars who can balance out their bad behaviour by being completely charming.
These days they may not look like the Jon Bon Jovis and the David Coverdales of the 1980s but, for me, a rockstar still needs that look, that extra effort into his appearance, that sense of style. I think 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto is perfect example of what a modern day rockstar should look like – especially at the moment, with his long hair.
Being a rockstar isn’t just about how you look though, it’s how you act, how you hold yourself and how you make people feel. If you can command your audience and make every single person in the room feel like they’re important, then you’ll have them eating out of the palm of your hand… or wherever, depending on what you’re into.

Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place is out 12th February, ahead of How Not to be Starstruck in March. For more information visitwww.portiamacintosh.tumblr.com
