Bride Without A Groom by Amy Lynch

What They say
Single, coupled-up or married, this laugh-out-loud summer read is the perfect anecdote for the wedding season!

Rebecca has chosen the most luscious, five-tiered, wedding cake. The engagement ring that she has selected is celebrity inspired. The wedding singer is on speed dial. He doesn’t usually do Michael Bolton, but as it’s for a first dance he’ll make an exception. Father Maguire is checking dates for the parish church as we speak. The deposit on the white sand honeymoon is paid for in full on Barry’s card. She has fallen for an ivory lace couture gown that is to die for. The down payment may require her to sell a left kidney, but it will be worth it. Isn’t that why you have two?

There’s one teeny tiny problem. It’s nothing, really. No need to panic! It’s just that Barry has yet to propose. Says he’s not ready! He can be a bit of a kill joy that way. It’s time to face the harsh reality – Rebecca is a bride without a groom!

What I Say:

I would like to say, thank you to Alice from Light brigade PR for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

To start with I will mention the new cover given by Avon publishing as this is really vibrant pink and eye-catching.

I first heard about this story earlier in the year from it's lovely author Amy and it has sat on my tbr pile for awhile. I was so pleased for her when she announced Avon had decided to publish tit with sparkling new cover.

When we are first introduced to Rebecca it is the night of her thirty birthday and because she had been snooping was convinced that boyfriend Barry was about to propose.  Rebecca is left devastated when this doesn't happen, Barry is a very reluctant bridegroom.

I'd like to say that I like Rebecca but I'm sorry I really didn't take to her at all, she is self-obsessed and really is the ultimate 'Bridezilla'.  Having said that I really enjoyed Amy's style of writing especially when she introduced Barry's side of the story.  There are parts of the story where I was rolling my eyes at Rebecca.  What I did like was Rebecca's bestfriends, Pam and Emer.

Barry, however was a bit of a wimp and took the opportunity to run off to Bangkok with colleague Shirley.  There was nothing in this book that couldn't be solved by the main characters having a frank and honest conversation.  The book isn't all bad and I really did find Amy's writing style flowed easily and would have been very enjoyable had I been able to connect with the main character, I'm sure readers around the age of Rebecca would connect with her.  Personally having been married I just see this as a piece of paper and really don't know what all the fuss is about but I'm hoping there is more to Rebecca and Barrys story.

‘Terrific! Punchy, to the point, and full of energy . . . exactly the kind of book I’d want to take on holiday with me.’
