#HIFortnight - Guest Post by Jane Linfoot

Today for #HIFortnight Jane Linfoot talks recipes and The Vintage Cinema Club.

My latest book, The Vintage Cinema Club, centre’s on three friends, Izzy, Luce and Dida who share a wonderful retro shop in an old vintage cinema. We join them at the start of what should be a fabulous summer, as they celebrate the third birthday of their emporium, Vintage at the Cinema. But as fast as they’re popping the champers, everything they’ve worked for is unraveling, and suddenly three women are facing a full on fight to save what they love.

“Cake of the week is Chocolate and Banana....”

Dida is the oldest of the women, and has an amazing house, but despite being well off, she is married to the husband from hell, so her life isn’t easy. Her forte is cake baking, and her fab cakes are very popular in the cafe area in the shop. The cakes mentioned in the book are all based on real recipes, and are as mouth wateringly delicious in real life as they sound on the page.

As a little taster for the book, and something a little different for Harper Impulse Fortnight, I thought I’d give you the recipe for one of Dida’s cakes, chocolate banana cake. It’s very easy to make – it has to be if I can make it – and totally yummy.

DIDA’S DELECTABLE CHOCOLATE AND BANANA CAKE

5oz sugar
2oz butter/margarine
2 eggs
4 ripe mashed bananas (over ripe and black work very well)
7oz plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
Two desert spoonfuls of cocoa powder

Pre heat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas4.
Place the sugar and butter together in a bowl, cream together, then and beat until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs to this bowl, and mix in carefully, then and add the mashed bananas and stir in well.
Sieve the flour, bicarb, salt and and baking powder into another bowl and stir in the cocoa powder.
Add dry ingredients to the other mixture, and stir in gently.
Transfer to a greased rectangular loaf tin (8 inch by 5 inches is good).
Bake for 60 mins, at 180ºC/350ºF/Gas4, or until well risen, firm on top, and slightly moist in the middle.
Cool on a wire rack.
Serve sliced, fab with coffee or tea.

"A witty, warm-hearted romp through the lives and loves of three friends – with a cool retro vibe, and a sense of fun that will never go out of fashion." – Debbie Johnson, author of the best-selling ‘Cold Feet At Christmas’.
Meet The Vintage Cinema Club….
Izzy is a wow at making unwanted things pretty, but with three brothers and her shabby chic furniture business to run she doesn’t have time to date. Could a fabulous French proposal change her mind?
Single mum Luce’s vintage bridal dresses are exquisite, but there’s no way she’s ever going to wear one or walk down the aisle for that matter. She’s a strictly no romance, one night kind of woman – or so she thinks…
Dida seems to have it all – a chocolate and banana cake recipe to die for, lovely kids (most of the time!) and a great lifestyle. But what good is a fabulous home, when your marriage has more cracks than a pavlova and your husband is having it off with half of Lithuania?
Three retro fabulous friends, in love with all things vintage, run their dream business from the faded grandeur of a rescued cinema. When that dream comes under threat, they’ll do whatever it takes to save it.
Fans of Lucy Diamond, Michele Gorman and Milly Johnson are going to love this heartfelt, funny story.

Bio.
I write fun chicklit, with strong heroines, and lots of heart.

Writing is fab, because I get to wear pretty shoes instead of wellies. I live in a cottage up a mountain road in Derbyshire, where my family and pets are kind enough to ignore the domestic chaos. Happily, we're in walking distance of a supermarket. I love hearts, flowers, happy endings, all things vintage, most things french. When I'm not on facebook, and can't find an excuse for shopping, I'll be walking, or gardening. On days when I want to be really scared, I ride a tandem.
