#HIFortnight - Interview with Teresa Morgan

Today for #HIFortnight I have an interview with the lovely Teresa F. Morgan

What They Say:

Just a boy standing in front of a girl…

Actor Steve Mason has it all … gorgeous looks, the perfect starlet girlfriend hanging on his arm and his name on every Hollywood producer’s lips. That is, until it turns out the ‘perfect girl’ is actually a perfect PR stunt! Dumped and with his name plastered across every tabloid headline, Steve decides to head home to England, questioning if he’ll ever find a woman who genuinely loves him for who he is, and not just his place on the Sexiest Man Alive list.

It’s been fifteen long years since Ruby last saw her big brother – but the new LA version of Steve complete with designer wardrobe, California tan and an American accent is too much to bear – Ruby hardly recognises him and decides it’s time to get her brother back!

With Ruby’s help, Steve goes undercover as he plays the part of a regular guy who leads a regular life. And then one perfectly fine, ordinary day he meets lovely, funny, down-to-earth Lydia. But when Hollywood comes calling, will Steve be able to leave both Lydia and his little sister behind?

Interview with Teresa Morgan

Hi Teresa

Thank you for coming on Comet Babes Books for #HIFortnight.

Can you tell us about One Fine Day?
Steve Mason returns from Hollywood after 15 years to catch up with his sister, Ruby. He’s miserable because the woman he was planning on marrying has dumped him.

He’s now worried that with his A-list celebrity status he won’t find a woman who genuinely loves him. Ruby devises a plan to disguise Steve, so that he is unrecognisable as the famous Hollywood actor, in a hope to help him find true love. It worked for Clark Kent, right?

As Steve searches for his not-so-perfect woman and has a taste of normality, his relationship develops with his sister. But will he find the right woman before he has to head back to his real life in Hollywood?

Can you share with us who designs the gorgeous covers for you books?
HarperCollins cover designer, Alexandra Allden produced Plus One is a Lucky Number, however Lizzie Gardiner (a freelancer working at HarperCollins) produced my lovely book cover for One Fine Day. I’ve always wanted a tree on the front of a book cover with hearts.

Can you tell us about your writing process?
I’m probably a seats of pants type writer. I’m not very good at planning. I know by writing romance that I need to get my hero and heroine together, and I work towards that. I try to get down as much as possible without editing too much, then go back an edit after a rest. Usually I let a critique partner see it at first draft too. It’s a much more productive way of writing… if you edit as you go, it’s easy to get stuck on the first chapter and not move on. Then the book never gets finished.

How old were you when you started writing?
I was very late to writing. I started in 2006 (aged 33) writing fanfiction. I was pregnant with my second son, and my first would take an afternoon nap, so I would relax by writing. In 2009, I decided to write professionally, joining The Writers’ Bureau. In 2010 I started writing my first novel, which became Plus One is a Lucky Number. (Published August 2013).

What items are on your desk/where you write?
My desk is in my cosy lounge. I needed a writing space when I moved house, and this was the only place a desk could go. It doesn’t matter how much I try to unclutter it, my desk always gets untidy. It has all sorts on it from the keyboard, mouse, screen (I work at a PC), printer, stationery, note pads… I have my diary open next to me too. My (Ikea) desk is connected to a bookshelf, so I have a dictionary and thesaurus to hand, plus writing books. But my desk is where I leave my ‘idiot notes’ i.e. my to-do list to remind me of what I need to remember to do day to day.

Do you have a routine for your writing? ie time of day.
I try not to write evenings like I used to. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are my writing days and I try to treat these as office hours. I break up my sessions with housework etc. I set the oven timer for an hour to make me get up from my desk. If I wrote for the full six hours I’d be crippled lol! This is what I try to stick to… it doesn’t always work though – real life does like to get in the way.

Any tips for writers who are just starting out?
Just write it really – you can’t edit a blank page! – and don’t be afraid to put it out there. If you can find a critique partner, all the better!

Can you share a sneak peek at what you're working on at the moment?
It really is in first draft stage, so won’t say too much but I’m working on book 3. The hero and heroine are neighbours and they have a love/hate relationship. When Maddy’s house is on fire, Harry reluctantly comes to Maddy’s rescue... Forced together, they both learn to love again.

What's the worst advice you have ever received?
I don’t think I’ve ever received bad advice when it’s come to writing…. And if I have, I haven’t taken any notice of it. Lol! I certainly can’t remember it.

If one of your books was made into a film/TV series, who would you like as the leading lady/man?
If One Fine Day was made into a film, I’d like Bradley Cooper to play Steve Mason, because I was picturing him when writing this book. When I first started writing One Fine Day, Bradley Cooper was a new-ish face to Hollywood. He was my Steve Mason.

Thank you for answering my questions today.

About The Author

I live in sunny Weston-super-Mare, trying to hold onto my Surrey accent where I was born and bred.

For years I persevered with boring jobs, until my two boys joined my nest. In an attempt to find something to work around them, and to ensure I never endured full-time boredom again, I found writing.

I am at my happiest baking cakes, putting proper home cooked dinners on the table (whether the kids eat them or not), reading a good romance, or creating a touch of escapism with heroes readers will fall in love with.

Mum to two boys by day, romance writer by night. I’m at my happiest baking cakes, putting proper home cooked dinners on the table (whether the kids eat them or not), reading a good romance, or creating a touch of escapism with heroes readers will fall in love with.
